Company

A family owned business for over 50 years, Homewood Disposal has grown from a small scavenger service to a full range solid waste, transportation, recycling and disposal service company.

We are involved in local Chamber of Commerce activities in many of the communities we service.  We are also involved in the planning and development of municipal waste handling programs.   We financially support many local organizations and charities, resulting from our belief in giving back to the local communities.   As a Platinum Sponsor of the Chicago Southland Chamber, we recognize the importance of the region as a whole.

1956

The beginning of Homewood Disposal (then called Homewood Scavenger).  With a fleet of just three trucks, we picked up garbage from residents in Homewood.  Our first office stood behind a men’s clothing store on Dixie Highway in Homewood, IL.

1960′s

Joining Forces. In conjunction with another local company, Star Disposal, out of Park Forest, we offer our first roll-off dumpsters. This is the first of a number of companies that we will merge with over the years (others include, Nuway Disposal, Tinley Park Disposal, A&J Disposal, Sexton Disposal, Kankakee Disposal, Service Sanitation, Arrowaste and Heartland Disposal).

1970′s

We Moved!  With a growing fleet and staff, we move into a bigger space a few blocks away in East Hazel Crest, IL.  Our service area has now grown to include Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee and Will Counties.

1980′s

Let’s Build.   Now servicing many rapidly growing communities, it is necessary for us to operate our own transfer station.  This was a huge step for us.  When it was completed, it allowed us to dump our trucks at our own facility.

1990′s

How else can we help you?  Our list of services has tripled since our beginning.  In 1990, we introduced our first curbside recycling program in the Village of Homewood.  1994 brought the start of our Special Hauling division and in 1996 we started our Street and Parking Lot Sweeping program.

2000′s

Going Green in a Big Way!  This year we installed our state-of-the-art recycling facility.   This facility allows us to sort recyclable material by type and prepare it for the market.

2001

Potty Time.  This year, Homewood Disposal partnered with Indiana portable restroom company, Service Sanitation, Inc. Service Sanitation was already a successful restroom company servicing the Chicagoland area.  This made for a great addition to our list of services.

2005

Home Sweet Home.  After operating out of East Hazel Crest for more than 30 years, we made the move back to Homewood with the construction of our corporate headquarters.

2009

Crossing the border.  We are now able to service commerical customers in Northwest Indiana.  We also operate a transfer station in Valparaiso.  Star Disposal of Indiana opened its doors on September 1.

2010

Up and Running.  Our renovated recycling sorting facility opened up in Spring.  The new center is twice the size of the original and allows us to accept even more types of recyclables.

2012

C.N.G.  In an effort to be more environmentally responsible, we have introduced new trucks that run on compressed natural gas. CNG is quieter, has greatly reduced emissions and will use natural gas found in the United States.  This reduces our dependency on the volatile foreign petroleum market and reduces our carbon footprint.

2014

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle More!  Our state of the art recycling facility is now able to sort out milk, juice, soy milk, broth, soup and other food and beverage containers. These cartons include both aseptic rectangular shaped cartons as well as the familiar gabletop, refrigerated cartons.
