What is a Sludge Dumpster?
A sludge dumpster or “sludge box” is a sealed dumpster that contains material and prevents wet or fine materials from leaking.

Sludge box dumpsters have a special sealed gasket on the door to hold in liquids.

Common Uses for Sealed Dumpsters
Sealed dumpsters are often used for thicker or semi-liquid materials, such as sludge, slurry, or other viscous waste, Homewood Disposal Service offers rental, delivery, and disposal of these sealed dumpsters, often referred to as sludge boxes. Unlike traditional open roll-off containers, sludge boxes are fully sealed and water-tight, featuring a gasketed rear door that prevents leaks during transport.
These boxes are designed to handle difficult waste streams like wastewater solids, wet soil, or pudding-like materials that would otherwise escape a standard dumpster. To make cleanup and disposal even easier, many customers use a plastic liner inside the sealed dumpster. The liner keeps the box clean, reduces sticking, and allows for quick and safe unloading of material at the disposal site.

A sludge dumpster combined with a cover creates the ultimate contained waste disposal system.
A covered dumpster — also known as a tarp top dumpster, enclosed dumpster, or water-tight dumpster — is a dumpster equipped with a heavy-duty tarp that can easily be opened or closed. The tarp system sits on top of sturdy bows or ribs, keeping the cover tight and arched to shed rainwater and snow.
This design prevents pooling on top of the tarp, keeping the material inside dry and lightweight. Whether you’re managing debris, recyclables, or wet materials, keeping moisture out means fewer disposal issues, reduced odors, and less overall weight — saving you time and money.
