We have been recycling since the 1990’s. Today, Homewood Disposal collects and processes recyclable materials from more than 30 communities in the south suburbs of Chicago and beyond. Our Diversified Recycling Material Recovery Facility is one of the largest in the midwest and handles 300-600 tons of recycling each day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Home Garbage and Recycling

Villages with every-other-week recycling have a recycling calendar available online. Please type in your village or zip code above and then select your recycling calendar.

PAPER AND CARDBOARD: newspapers, cardboard boxes, magazines, office paper, junk mail, envelopes, and brown paper bags
METAL CANS: soda cans, coffee cans, soup cans, vegetable cans and their lids
PLASTIC BOTTLES AND JUGS: plastic water, pop and juice bottles, soap bottles, coffee creamer bottles, household cleaner bottles, milk and juice jugs
CARTONS: juice cartons, milk cartons, soup and broth cartons, wine and cream cartons

Please place all material at the curb the night before your pick up day or by 6 a.m. on your pick up day.

  • Place your cart at least two feet away from permanent structures like mailboxes, walls, lamp posts, utility boxes, vehicles, etc.
  • Place your cart two feet away from other carts and on a level surface.
  • When at the curb, your cart wheels should be facing to the house.

  • To reduce blowing garbage, please place all garbage inside garbage bags before placing it in your cart.
  • All recyclables should be placed loose inside of your recycling cart, not bagged.
  • Recyclables should be clean and dry. A quick rinse is helpful.

Your standard weekly garbage service includes any general household waste such as food scraps, pet waste, diapers, wood, non-recyclable plastics, housewares, toys, and wires.

These items cannot be placed in your garbage or recycling cart:
• Batteries
• Items that Contain Batteries
• Many Electronics
• Wet Paint
• Car Parts or Oil
