7 Tips for Your Dumpster Delivery

Dumpster Rental in Chicago

No matter how big or small your project, dumpster rental is available for any type of cleanup. Remodeling, moving, clean out, and roofing projects are common uses for dumpster rental. Dumpster rental is simple, reliable, and safe when you are prepared for your dumpster delivery.  Follow these simple tips for a smooth dumpster delivery!

Before arrival, make sure there is enough room for your dumpster. Vehicles and job site clutter should be cleared out of the way before dumpster arrival. The driver needs plenty of room to drop off your dumpster. It takes plenty of space (width and height) for trucks to deliver and unload your dumpster. Providing space before your dumpster arrives allows the truck easy access, resulting in a safe and timely drop off of your dumpster.

Want an extra measure of protection for your driveway or parking lot? We recommend placing wood under the dumpster wheels and at the front of the dumpster. 2 sheets of plywood or 3 pieces of 2×6 lumber will work. Providing wood can prevent possible damage to your driveway. Our driver will ensure the wood is adjusted properly.

It is important to be aware of what is above the area where your dumpster is being dropped off. The drop area should be free of trees, overhead wires and cables. Having enough clearance above the area will ensure that the delivery truck can drop off and retrieve easily.

If you are using the back door of your dumpster, allow at least 6 feet of extra space. This allows room for the dumpster door to swing open, giving your full access to the inside of your dumpster. A fully open door makes disposing of your junk easier and more convenient.

It is important to make sure you do not load your dumpster more than level full. You don’t want to overflow your dumpster. Too much trash in a dumpster can become dangerous during transportation. For safety reasons, if there is an overflow of trash, your dumpster cannot be picked up. Keeping your dumpster filled at a reasonable level allows for safe transportation.

Ensure that the weight of your dumpster is balanced. Take time during your project to distribute contents evenly within the dumpster. Efficient distribution often results in added room! Uneven weight distribution in your dumpster can cause the dumpster to unexpectedly shift during the retrieval or transport of the dumpster. This can be dangerous for your worksite and for disposal employees.

Dumpsters have a maximum weight limit of 6 tons in Illinois. In Indiana, there is a 4-ton maximum weight limit for dumpsters. Mandatory hauling limits are set by the state for safety and transportation reasons. Heavier materials like rock, dirt, stone, shingles and drywall can quickly add up. If your dumpster exceeds the weight limit, there may be additional charges.
