Homewood Disposal Internship – Not Just a Summer Job

College students and employers often lump internships into two categories:  Internship Type 1:  A Valuable Career Preparing Internship  Internship Type 2:  A Summer Job, Posing as an Internship

Good internships are structured to allow a college students to grow their talents while immersed in the company’s culture. The result of these “good internships” is not just work completed at the company, but a student who has developed insight and skills within their field. Homewood Disposal worked hard to meet this higher internship standard this summer. With our talented marketing and sales interns, Lizzy Morrissey, Austin VanderVelde, and Alex Clark, it was an easy task.

“Talking TRASH has never been my forte but, after interning at Homewood Disposal it is something I catch myself doing quite often.

This internship sharpened my communication skills and taught me tough lessons while working closely with customers in an under appreciated industry. Homewood Disposal not only invested in me as an intern but, also as a person with everyday struggles and goals.”

Austin VanderVelde, Summer Sales Intern
“Interning at Homewood Disposal is like becoming part of a family. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and wants you to succeed and grow.

This marketing internship challenged me to be my best and strengthened my communication, analytical, and problem solving skills. These are all extremely valuable in marketing and Homewood Disposal helped me build this foundation.”

Lizzy Morrissey, - Summer Marketing Intern
“In movies interns do the work that nobody else wants to do. However, at Homewood Disposal we were treated like full-time employees. Everyone was immediately welcoming and friendly. This internship helped me sharpen my telephone speaking skills, and gave me a glimpse of all the aspects of a business.”
