Guidelines for Homeowner E-Waste Disposal
Fly the “W” for Electronic Recycling
It’s that time of year again! The MLB playoffs are upon us. Whether you’re flying the “W” for the Chicago Cubs or just enjoying the game, everyone loves the idea of having the best quality television to watch the playoffs and the World Series. Whether it is a 4K television, Ultra HD, or a Curved TV, fans want a television custom fit to their entertainment needs. Within the last six months of 2016, leading up throughout 2017, it was estimated that 118.4 million televisions were in U.S. homes. Bringing home the newest model often requires disposal of an old television.
No Televisions in the Trash
Electronics require special disposal… why? Bench your old television for the new, MVP upgrade. But be aware that your old television cannot go in the garbage or the recycling bin. Improper electronics disposal leads to harmful effects to people and the environment. In fact, E-waste represents 2% of America’s trash in landfills, but it equals 70% of overall toxic waste. Special disposal, separate from the trash or the recycling bins are needed because electronic products contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium.
How Do I Recycle My Electronics?

- Check with your local village hall for collection events
