Olympia Fields residents receive household garbage, yard waste, and recycling services from Homewood Disposal. We’ve been serving village households and unincorporated areas of Olympia Fields since 1956. We can also provide weekly business service and temporary dumpster service.

Waste Services in Olympia Fields

Weekly Garbage Pick Up

• Service includes weekly pick up for town residents on Friday

• Customers are billed quarterly by Homewood Disposal.

• Each household in Olympia Fields has been provided with a brown wheeled 95-gallon garbage cart at no additional cost.

• Additional garbage carts are available to rent. See our online order form.

• Garbage may also be placed in garbage bags or within your own 32-gallon cans weighing no more than 50 pounds each.

•  If you have a large amount of extra garbage from a clean up project that won’t fit in cans or bags, place it neatly at the curb in a manageable pile that one driver can handle.

• Recyclables are collected every other week on your regular pick up day.

• Each home in Olympia Fields has been provided a green 95-gallon recycling cart.

• ONLY recyclables should be placed in the recycle cart.

Yard Waste Service Bag Sticks

Seasonal Yard Waste

• Yard waste season is April 1 – November 30.

• Grass clippings, leaves, branches, etc. are considered yard waste (no dirt or rock).

• By Illinois State Law, yard waste must NOT be mixed with your garbage.

Yard Waste Bags and Branches
• All yard waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags with a yard waste sticker attached. Bags and stickers can be found at most local grocery and hardware stores.

• Branches should be cut into 3-4 foot lengths and be no thicker than 6 inches in diameter. Branches can be placed in the yard waste bag or put in reasonable-sized bundles tied with twine or string. Each bundle must have a yard waste sticker attached.

Yard Waste Carts
• Tired of using stickers? Large 95-gallon wheeled yard waste carts are also available to rent. We’ll be there weekly to empty it. Stickers are not needed for any yard waste placed within these carts. See the online order form.

There are six holidays each year that may affect your pick up: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Top Tips for Recycling:
1. Place clean and dry items in your recycling cart.
2. Do not place any type of plastic bag inside your recycling cart.
3. Do not place your recyclables inside of plastic bags, keep them loose.

Basic Recycling is Better Recycling

  • Please place your garbage in bags before you put it in your cans or carts. This helps prevent materials from blowing out of the can and also reduces odor in your container.
  • All carts are owned by Homewood Disposal. Serial numbers have been recorded and designated to each address. In the event you move out of the home, the cart must remain at the original address. Please do not put your address on your cart.
