Electronics Recycling – Disposal and Pick Up
Electronics recycling sounds confusing, but it doesn’t have to be! So, Why won’t the garbageman take my television? Well the truth is, he can’t! Electronics are banned from landfills, so your disposal company cannot take your old television or computer. That’s right. Since 2012, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned many electronics from landfills amidst concerns of toxic components.
What about electronics recycling if it’s in my recycling cart? Electronics are difficult to recycle because of a myriad of components. Electronics are not made of simply metal, paper or plastic. Most sorting and recycling centers do not have a setup to handle the complex disassembly of electronics. But, never fear! The Homewood Disposal team is here to team up with you to create a safe way to dispose of unwanted electronics. First, be aware that electronics can be placed curbside only if you request an e-waste pick up service with Homewood Disposal. Simply, request an e-waste service. Then, the day of your regular trash pick up, set your unwanted electronics curbside.
So, we’ve learned that electronics can’t go in the garbage or curbside for recycling. How do you dispose of them? There are several options:
1. Check with your local village. Many villages do special pick up days for electronics.
