Toy Drive for Advocate Children’s Hospital

December 2016

Starting in November, Homewood Disposal employees began collecting gifts and toys to benefit young patients at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.  Advocate Children’s Hospital has been a blessing to so many of our employees and their families over the years. Our employees were truly connected to this cause. We collected toys, books and games for those patients who are spending the holidays in the hospital.  The donations also went towards gifts and awards for patients throughout the year.

How did you collect so many toys?
Each of our locations, Homewood, Park Forest, Gary, Joliet and Kankakee put up a Christmas tree with paper angels attached. Each paper angel had an age group and requested items for that age group.  Employees choose an angel or two and brought the gifts back to the trees. We’re so proud of our employees and their generous response of over 500 gifts this Christmas.

In addition to dropping off hundreds of toys on December 21, local employee helpers Karen, Pam, Lisa and Nancy made a special trip on December 19. The hospital allowed them to wheel wagon loads of toys down the halls of the hospital, stopping by every room with a smile and a gift. Thanks the special Child Life Team for making us feel right at home.

What a humbling experience it was to pass out gifts to the children. Those smiling faces melted my heart. Merry Christmas to all!
